Global Lottery Sales Improve 1.8% in H1 2017 …and More!

Netherlands Gaming Authority to Investigate Nationale Postcode Loterij

The Netherlands Gaming Authority has announced it will investigate whether Dutch lottery operator De National Postcode Loterij violated the law by sending advertising mail resembling payment reminders.

Advertising for gambling products may be neither misleading, nor aggressive, the Dutch Gambling Act states.

A number of recipients of the mailings also filed complaints with the Dutch Advertising Code Committee.

US Lottery Operator Launches Affiliate Program to Boost Online Sales

Michigan Lottery, has launched an affiliate program, the first of its kind for a US lottery, with Income Access, Paysafe’s marketing technology and services provider.

Through the Income Access platform, members of the Michigan Lottery affiliate program can promote one of the US’ most successful online Lottery brands.

“Michigan Lottery is the most successful online lottery program in the United States and growth potential is significant with only about 8% of eligible players in Michigan registered to play online. […] We expect this affiliate program to open a new pathway to acquiring players and play a key role in the Lottery’s overall player acquisition strategy,” Amanda Perkins, Digital Marketing & Analytics Manager at Michigan Lottery, said.

The new affiliate program will offer revenue share of up to 20%.


Global Lottery Sales Improve 1.8% in H1 2017

Reporting lotteries posted an aggregate increase in sales of 1.8% during H1 2017 compared to the same period in the previous year, the World Lottery Association (WLA) said.

Solid growth in Africa (5.6%), Asia Pacific (5.5%), Latin America (3.2%) was offset by contracting sales in North America (-2.2%) and Europe (-1.0%).

In Europe, operators in Hungary and the Czech Republic shone, mainly due to the introduction of new instant games and online sales.

Performance in Western and Southern Europe, however, was considerably more muted.
