An unclaimed R19 million Powerball jackpot is about the expire

Guys, public service announcement over here. If you have any friends in Durban that play the lottery, get in touch with them. Otherwise, somebody is going to be seriously bummed out.

Because imagine winning R19-million in the lotto and then not claiming the money. That’s exactly what’s happening to somebody in KwaZulu-Natal.

In July last year, somebody won that staggering sum with a PowerBall PLUS ticket, but that person is yet to come forward.

“In case the winnings are not claimed this coming Saturday, the R19.2 million will be forfeited and be retained by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. Winners have one year to claim their winnings in accordance with the National Lottery terms and conditions.”

Yowzer. That’s pretty incredible. And we have so many questions. Did the person lose his or her ticket? Did that person forget that they played the lotto? Why would folks not check their ticket? Emeeeerghaad, the stress is too much.

Where and when was the ticket bought?

The winning ticket was purchased The Pie Train Shop in Isipingo in Durban. It was the only ticket in the whole country to match all five numbers for the jackpot at the time.
