In what may be a fatal blow to the Massachusetts State Lottery’s plans for selling tickets online, legislation that would legalize online sales is facing a backlash from convenience store owners and the idea itself is overwhelmingly opposed by voters, according to one poll.

Democratic state Senate President Stanley Rosenberg recently signaled that online lottery legislation will not pass this year, with passage next year a maybe.

The stall comes as Massachusetts convenience store owners and other lottery sales agents launch an all-out lobbying campaign aimed at killing any online lottery bill.
