German State of Hesse Pushes for New Federal Gambling Treaty …and More!

German State of Hesse Pushes for New Interstate Gambling Treaty

Under pressure from the EU and national courts, the prime ministers of the sixteen federal German states are set to discuss this Thursday a new interstate gambling treaty. Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth (CDU) of the state of Hesse has already submitted a proposal for a wholly new interstate gambling treaty.

“We are currently at a dead end,” Mr Beuth said. “It is time for a fresh start.” His proposals would abolish the previously agreed limit of twenty sports betting licenses, but would leave the lottery monopolies of the federal German states intact.


Lottoland Appoints New VP of Gaming

Lottoland, a secondary lottery which controversially specializes in offering licensed and regulated betting on the outcome of major lotteries worldwide, has appointed former Head of Casino at Gala Coral Interactive Gavin Grimes as its new VP of Gaming.

Alibaba Group Bets on Online Lotteries

Chinese eCommerce giant Alibaba Group has agreed a deal worth HK$2.4 billion (€280 million) to acquire domestic sports lottery software and system developer AGTech Holdings.

Alibaba plans to leverage its e-commerce channels, mobile payment methods, and various other platforms to help AGTech expand aggressively.

“China’s lottery market has great business potentials,” an Alibaba spokesperson told state media. “We believe the investment will enable us to gain an upper hand in the market and to dig out the potentials of this market. Our experiences and resources in e-commerce, cloud computing and big data will help AGTech for better development.”


NetEnt Becomes Associate Member of World Lotteries Association
