Paris 2024 sponsorship drive nails French lottery company as first bid partner

Paris has found its first corporate partner to help the French capital with its bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

La Francaise des Jeux (FDJ), a lottery and betting company in France, signed up for Paris 2024’s ambitious multi-million Euro sponsorship strategy. Under the partnership, FJD is expected to make a “significant” contribution to the French capital’s bid budget and also help improve public engagement with campaigns across the country.

Paris’s goal is to tap several French companies to become its bid partners, with each investing an estimated €2 million (£1.5 million or $2.1 million) to become a “headline association.” Each sponsor will also be given a theme that they will promote around the country.

For its part, La Francaise des Jeux designed a new Paris 2024 lottery scratch card that it will distribute starting 2017. The lottery company was entrusted with the theme “Women in Sport,” and the company “will be creating promotional campaigns linked to developing women’s sport and celebrating female athletes.”

“I want to thank La Francaise des Jeux for their committed partnership and we know look forward to announcing further Paris 2024 sponsors who will each help to promote sport to the public in France and provide support for our campaign to become the 2024 Olympic Host City,” Etienne Thobois, chief executive of the Paris 2024 Bid Committee, said in a statement. “The support of FDJ, who has a long tradition and history working with Olympic and Paralympic sports, will make a valuable contribution to our bid.”
